FAPC Flash - Training to provide an understanding of SQF program

Oklahoma State University's Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center is hosting a Safe Quality Food Workshop April 18-19, 2017.

(Stillwater, Okla. - March 22, 2017) Oklahoma State University's Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center is hosting a Safe Quality Food Workshop April 18-19, 2017.

"FAPC is excited to host HACCP Consulting Group as it offers one of the first available training sessions on Edition 8 of the SQF Standard," said Ravi Jadeja, FAPC food safety specialist. "This workshop will provide information for participants to gain an understanding of the SQF program."

The two-day workshop will take place in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in room 120 of FAPC.

According to the SQF Institute, "SQF is recognized by retailers and foodservice providers around the world who require a rigorous, credible food safety management system. Using the SQF certification program will help reduce assessment inconsistencies and costs of multiple assessment standards."

The SQF program is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative and links primary production certification to food manufacturing, distribution and agent/broker management certification.

The upcoming workshop introduces the GFSI system and the certification process. Participants also will develop a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points-based quality plan.

The workshop focuses on developing and implementing SQF systems.

The outline of the workshop includes quality, customers and cost of quality; SQF codes; and developing, executing and maintaining SQF food safety plans.

Cathy Crawford, independent SQF trainer and president of HACCP Consulting Group, will deliver the training.

"The course will promote an understanding of the SQF Code, create a knowledge base to facilitate the successful implementation of an SQF system and show how a HACCP-based approach manages food safety and quality hazards in an operation," Crawford said. "Important links between SQF and FSMA compliance also will be discussed as well as the proposed Version 8 of the SQF Code."

FAPC is fortunate to have Crawford teach the workshop, Jadeja said.

"As a SQF trainer, Ms. Crawford brings industry experience and practical approaches," he said. "She is an enthusiastic trainer who has provided HACCP, internal auditor and other food safety training to a wide variety of manufacturing and food service clients, as well as domestic and international regulatory officials."

Registration cost for the SQF Workshop is $600 and includes materials, refreshments and lunches. Companies with more than two participants and students will receive a 10 percent discount.

Additionally, lodging is available at the Home2 Suites by Hilton - Stillwater for a special workshop room rate. Call 405-372-2550 and mention the group code FAP or book online with the special group code to get the $91 plus taxes special rate.
