(Stillwater, Okla. – April 6, 2017) Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center is offering a sanitation course for food industry professionals.

Sanitation in the Food Industry - A Crash Course will be held May 11 in room 120 of FAPC in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Ravi Jadeja, FAPC food safety specialist, said the day-long, hands-on workshop is designed to provide the essentials of sanitation to food safety professionals.

“This workshop is a ‘must take’ for professionals managing food safety programs and want to upgrade their knowledge of the science and technology of cleaning, sanitation and pest control,” Jadeja said.

Some of the topics covered during the course include foodborne pathogens and strategies for controlling foodborne pathogens, cleaners and sanitizers and their modes of actions, sanitary equipment and facility design, pest control, environmental monitoring and allergen control.

Jake Nelson, FAPC meat processing specialist and facility manager, said those food industry representatives who are involved in food safety programs, including sanitarians, quality assurance teams, and production and plant managers, should attend the training.

“The training and hands-on sessions will focus on control of pathogenic microorganisms, plant and equipment design, allergen control, and educational strategies to get everyone involved and committed to a food safety plan,” Nelson said.

The cost for the event is $250 per person. Parking, lunch, snacks and course materials are included in the cost. Participants also will receive certification upon completion of the course.
